Materials document Alexander Wetmore's efforts to investigate the nature and origin of duck disease and feeding habits of waterfowl in California and Utah for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Bureau of Biological Survey in 1914. Materials include correspondence and expense reports. An archival envelope includes three memoranda of traveling expenses, listing room, board, supplies, and mode of travel. Each notebook is dated. Correspondence makes up the rest of the contents. The majority of Wetmore's time was spent in San Joaquin Valley, California, and Salt Lake Valley, Utah. There are references in correspondence to studying nematodes as a possible cause, necessitating the collection of samples of water, mud, and aquatic plants eaten by the ducks. There are references to rolls of film and other specimens sent in. On the back of one letter to H.N. Henshaw (July 1, 1914) is a list of expenses
